Course Name: Continuous and Discontinuous Bachelor of Radiology Technology
Definition: Radiology is the medical discipline that uses medical imaging to diagnose and treat diseases within the bodies of humans. The educational program in this field designed to train radiology experts with the appropriate ability to use new technologies in medical imaging. The main goal is to prepare the ground for gaining educational experiences and competencies required for effective performance as a skilled expert and technologist in Medical imaging departments. In this course, students will gain theoretical and clinical experiences in various areas of imaging from simple and routine radiographic methods to advanced imaging techniques such as computer thermography, imaging using the magnetic resonance of the atomic nucleus, ultrasound. Course history and new developments: Since the installation of the first radiology device in 1931 by the great Iranian scientist, the late Professor Mahmoud Hesabi in Iran (Tehran Sina Hospital), technical developments and new technologies in the field of medical imaging science bring a special place for radiological technology in early, timely and accurate detection of many diseases in the world and Iran. In recent years, this field was considered as a purely paraclinical field and was used with mechanical and analogue tools and applying low sensitivity radiographic films and the use of contrast materials and most. Aggressive and painful methods in the diagnosis of diseases. Today, using modern imaging systems such as digital imaging devices, digital mammography, digital angiography with Subtraction, spiral computed tomography, MRI imaging, ultrasound and color Doppler, diseases can be diagnosed more accurately and quickly. Also, most aggressive methods are non-invasive thanks to advanced technologies. At present, in addition to diagnosing diseases, using modern techniques and equipment can treat some diseases or weaken their effect، the arterial embolization of tumors is one of the important and noteworthy cases in this field. Finally, it can be stated that improving the quality of diagnostic services and sometimes treatment in medical imaging departments with early diagnosis of diseases will increase the level of health of people in the community. Role of graduates: Graduates of the undergraduate course in radiology technology can have caring, executive, managerial and communication roles in radiology departments. Mission: The mission of this field is to create the necessary scientific and professional capabilities to train radiology experts and increase their efficiency in the field of medical imaging and the use of new tools with advanced technology. Vision: Learners of this field, due to the increase of scientific and professional knowledge in various fields of medical imaging, will be able to perform advanced imaging techniques in a more specific way. These graduates will be able to collaborate in research related to medical diagnosis due to their connection with advanced imaging devices. General objectives of the field: 1- Learning the science of medical imaging from simple imaging techniques to advanced methods of medical imaging (including digital systems, modern ultrasounds) 2- Promoting the idea of lifelong and forward-looking education and information transfer. 3- Acquiring managerial skills 4- Ability to cooperate in educational and research activities 5- Providing the ground for higher education in radiology sciences to prepare experts to enter higher levels
